FAQ
Frequently asked questions about QR code types
What to know before choosing a QR code type for print or a digital campaign.
How do QR code types differ?
The type decides what data the device receives after the scan. A link opens a page, a vCard offers to save a contact, Wi-Fi passes the network settings, while phone, email and SMS start the matching action with the fields already filled in. Choose the type by the result you expect, not by how the code looks.
Which QR code type should a business choose?
Start from the scenario: a link suits a website or a review form, a vCard suits a contact, Wi-Fi suits a guest network, a menu or PDF suits venue materials. If the destination has to change after printing, use a dynamic QR code on a short link and test that scenario in the personal account first.
Do I need an app to scan a code?
Most modern phones read QR codes with the built-in camera. Even so, the result depends on the device, the system version and the type of data. Before printing, test the finished code on several devices and in the way your audience will actually scan it.
Can the data be changed after downloading?
In a static QR code the data is written straight into the image: changing it means a new code. In a dynamic scenario the code leads through a managed link, so its destination can be changed without replacing the image — as long as that mode was chosen and set up before publication.
How do I prepare a code for print?
Keep the contrast strong, do not crop the quiet zone around the matrix and do not stretch a raster image. Test a sample at the final size, on the actual material and under real lighting. For scaling the layout, SVG is the easier format.
