About this format

How YouTube QR code works

Create a YouTube QR code for a channel, video or playlist, using the exact link viewers should open and a design prepared for print.

What the QR code contains

Enter a channel handle to create a youtube.com/@handle address, or paste the full URL of a video, Short or playlist. Channel owners can find the handle URL in YouTube Studio under Customization and Basic info.

Where it works

The scan opens the YouTube app when the device supports the link, otherwise it opens the website. A standard QR works with normal phone cameras and can point beyond a channel to one video or playlist.

Limits to check

Private videos require an invited viewer signed into the correct account. Anyone with an unlisted link can watch and reshare it, so a printed QR should be treated as public distribution of that URL.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can the QR code open a YouTube video or playlist?

A full YouTube link can point there. Paste the video, Short or playlist URL; enter a handle only for the channel homepage.

Will an unlisted YouTube video work?

Yes, but anyone who obtains the QR or link can watch and reshare an unlisted video. It does not appear in ordinary search results.

Can viewers open a private YouTube video?

Only invited viewers can watch a private video, and they must sign in to the account that received access. A QR code does not change that.

What happens after the code is scanned?

The device recognizes the encoded data and offers a suitable action. The exact behavior depends on the camera, operating system and installed apps.

Can I change a static QR code after downloading it?

No. Its data is written into the image. If the content changes, create and test a new QR code.

Is an internet connection required for scanning?

Recognizing the code itself does not require the internet. A connection is needed when the result opens a website, file or another online resource.

How should I prepare a QR code for print?

Keep strong contrast, a clear quiet zone and the correct proportions. Test a sample on several devices at the final print size.
