About this format

How Google Maps QR code works

Create a QR code that searches Google Maps for an address or opens exact latitude and longitude coordinates.

What the QR code contains

For an address, the code contains a Google Maps Search URL with the address as its query. For coordinates, it uses the latitude and longitude directly; an optional place label helps identify the destination.

Where it works

The HTTPS link works in a browser and may hand off to the Google Maps app. Search results, routes and business information come from Google Maps and can change.

Limits to check

An address search can return several places. Use coordinates for an exact entrance or meeting point, then test the result on mobile. The QR code does not provide navigation by itself.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What happens after the code is scanned?

The device recognizes the encoded data and offers a suitable action. The exact behavior depends on the camera, operating system and installed apps.

Can I change a static QR code after downloading it?

No. Its data is written into the image. If the content changes, create and test a new QR code.

Is an internet connection required for scanning?

Recognizing the code itself does not require the internet. A connection is needed when the result opens a website, file or another online resource.

How should I prepare a QR code for print?

Keep strong contrast, a clear quiet zone and the correct proportions. Test a sample on several devices at the final print size.
