About this format

How Zoom QR code works

Create a Zoom QR code from the participant join link copied from Zoom, or from a meeting ID if guests will enter the passcode themselves.

What the QR code contains

Paste the full HTTPS participant join link copied from the Zoom invitation; this is the preferred input. A meeting ID alone becomes a zoom.us/j/ link without the passcode. The meeting title is only a project label.

Where it works

Scanning opens Zoom's launch page, which can hand off to the desktop or mobile app. Browser joining offers basic meeting features and appears only when the host has enabled that option.

Limits to check

A join link created by Zoom may contain Zoom's encrypted token for one-click entry. A link built here from a meeting ID never includes the passcode, so Zoom asks participants to type it; share the passcode separately. Neither link bypasses account rules or the Waiting Room.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Zoom link should I put in the QR code?

Use the participant join link from the meeting invitation, not a host-only start link. Open it while signed out before printing the QR code.

Can the QR code include the Zoom passcode?

Only inside the participant link that Zoom generates, where the passcode is replaced by an encrypted token. The generator does not add a typed passcode to the link: it would not unlock the meeting and would be readable to anyone with the QR code.

Does scanning admit someone to the Zoom meeting?

No. Zoom can still require sign-in or place the participant in the Waiting Room until the host admits them.

What happens after the code is scanned?

The device recognizes the encoded data and offers a suitable action. The exact behavior depends on the camera, operating system and installed apps.

Can I change a static QR code after downloading it?

No. Its data is written into the image. If the content changes, create and test a new QR code.

Is an internet connection required for scanning?

Recognizing the code itself does not require the internet. A connection is needed when the result opens a website, file or another online resource.

How should I prepare a QR code for print?

Keep strong contrast, a clear quiet zone and the correct proportions. Test a sample on several devices at the final print size.
